After Flapjack gives his life to save Hunter's, he becomes despondent as he mourns his palisman, but insists on finishing the fight they started for Flapjack's sake. Prior to his official debut, he made non-speaking cameos in the episodes "Agony of a Witch" and "Young Blood, Old Souls", and is also shown briefly in the second season's main theme.

After joining with the resistance in "Clouds on the Horizon", Hunter wears a pale rose-colored undershirt covered by a collared light brown shirt bearing a cross-stitch in the center, as well as a brown belt bag. While hiding from the Emperor's Coven in "Labyrinth Runners", Hunter gets rid of his tunic and dons the shirts of his sports uniform again, albeit tattered and dirty, alongside a dark blue cloak with red patches. His sleeves and leggings of his uniform are colored yellow to suggest he is affiliated with the Potions track.

He was initially hesitant to pry into the Emperor's memories at Luz's prompting, and still thinking Belos had good intentions, refusing to listen to Luz that Belos was deceiving him, despite the increasing evidence she pointed out. Yet at the same time, Luz protected him when they encounter what they initially thought to be Inner Belos, and seeing how much Luz cares about him, Hunter begins to trust and care more about Luz. Later, when Luz tries to save him with the jacket, Hunter escapes with the glyphs in the jacket and arrives in time to save Luz from Belos, and they both escape the mindscape. At this point and beyond, Hunter stopped calling Luz "human" and instead called her by her actual name for she now earned his trust and respect. When facing Belos during the Day of Unity, Belos tries to manipulate Hunter to stop fighting to no avail.
Golden Guard
Hunter's relationship with Luz has also improved significantly, as he now relies on and trusts her to help him keep their friends safe, until Luz tells Hunter that she wants to keep him safe as well and that he's become a part of her family, which causes him to break down crying, meaning that he feels the same way about her. Hunter is laid-back, easy-going, and likes to make quips towards the people he battles with. In spite of this, he takes his job seriously and always makes sure to follow his boss's orders. He is apparently a "genius teen prodigy" among the members of the Emperor's Coven, implying him to be intelligent and resourceful at magic, which serves as the reason for his high rank despite his age.

As Gus amuses Willow with an illusion of talking grass, he hears birds chirp that reminds him of Flapjack, which frustrates and saddens him enough to snap at the others. They find the skull torn in half with a mysterious castle floating above it and pink mist around the ribs.

A fight ensues, with Hunter (with the help of Flapjack as his palisman) fighting both Amity and King in an effort to get the key. Hunter and Amity eventually stalemate each other, and he manipulates her into giving him the key by saying that he knew where to find both her and Luz. However, Hunter seems to show some degree of remorse about this before leaving. On his way back to the Emperor's Castle, Hunter bonds with Flapjack, thanking him for never leaving his side and even now being able to understand what his palisman is saying.[5] He returns to the palace and gives the key to Belos, who promptly tells him to leave.

King then sends Luz and her friends away to the Human Realm to protect them from the Collector's games.[16] As he spends time with the Collector as his chosen playmate, King comes to understand that he is misguided rather than malicious and discourages Eda and Lilith from attempting to reimprison him. Upon Luz's return, King and Eda reunite with her and aid her in befriending the Collector and destroying Belos once and for all. In the epilogue, King's developing Titan powers allow him to create a new glyph system, which he begins to teach Luz. Hunter first met Willow while going undercover at Hexside to recruit some students for the Emperor's Coven. He had impressed her with his flying skills, which made her decide to ask him to join her flyer derby team. Though Hunter was reluctant, he decided to join her team, upon hearing flyer derby would attract the best witches.
Luz comes up with a plan to get the palismen away from Kikimora while en-route to the Emperor's Castle. Using a fire and ice glyph combination, she can conjure up a thick mist, combined with pollen from sleeping nettle flowers that will create a sleeping-induced smoke, forcing Kikimora and her dragon to land. During this time, Flapjack, a cardinal palisman, takes interest in the Golden Guard, but the guard is apprehensive and sees the creature as dangerous due to the fact that it is made of wild magic. Hunter, like the many Golden Guards before him, was created with the likeness of Belos' late older brother, Caleb Wittebane, and Inner Belos states he is the closest to his likeness of any grimwalker Belos created.[7][9] He is a humanoid boy sharing the physical characteristics of a witch, such as pointed ears. The Collector takes King as his personal playmate while turning most of the Boiling Isles' residents into puppets.
Luz eventually trusts Hunter enough to hand back his staff, but is later betrayed when Hunter turns it against her. Luz is emotionally hurt, telling Hunter that he is not her friend as he is just "The Golden Guard". Hunter then reveals his name to her, and defends her from Kikimora when she starts attacking them, allowing Luz to get away safely with the palismen.
He wore a golden pauldron on his left shoulder and a pointed two-faceted mask with a thin eye-slot across it. Underneath his tunic, he had a blueish-gray shirt and golden chest armor with brown straps. Under the cloak was a golden-yellow tunic with darker sleeves and a dark brown belt, black leggings, dark brown gloves, and boots.
